Peculiar (a. and occasionally n.)
Different from the usual or normal, often describing something odd, strange, or belonging exclusively to a specific person, group, or thing.
Origin: Peculiar traces back to the Latin peculiars, meaning “one’s own” or relating to private property, which came from peculium, meaning private property. That word is connected to pecu, meaning cattle or flock—livestock being an important form of property and wealth in ancient times. Eventually, peculiar developed from describing something belonging particularly to someone into describing something unusual or odd.
Common Synonyms: odd, strange, unusual, eccentric, distinctive.
So I want to tell you about my favorite word. I was once referred to as “peculiar,” and when I was called that, I was in awe. Never has there been a more fitting singular word to describe me. Now, don’t get it twisted. I am more than flattered when I am complimented on my looks. HOWEVER COMMA, when I get a compliment on my character…
And in this case, I ABSOLUTELY consider being called “peculiar” a compliment! Some may think being called odd, weird, strange, or peculiar is an insult (especially where I’m from). ME, I love that shit. There is nothing that I’d rather be. Means I’m doing everything I want to be doing right. I want to be odd, weird, strange, eccentric, PECULIAR. I desire being uncategorical. I want to be unpredictable. I don’t want someone to see me, hear about me, experience me, and think that they can “place” me. I don’t ramble all this because I’m trying to be some cool “weird girl.” I just know myself, and with that I also know I’m not for everybody. It could be said that I have an acquired taste, like cognac (even though it’s mentioned in a lot of songs). With that said, I’m gonna stop pressing the keys here before I turn this post into an edition. But fret not, this is not the end. It’s just the beginning and will be revisited soon enough :).
